The piano is a wonderful instrument in and of itself, but it’s also a great introduction to music in general. For many people the piano is a sort of gateway to other instruments. The visual advantage of seeing all of the notes laid out in front of you helps you to see, literally, how music works. The piano can be a lifelong instrument, able to be successfully played by children as young as 4 years old. I use a series of books to gradually progress through different concepts, techniques, and songs. Not everyone who wants to play the piano is starting off as a beginner; I often get students who played as children, but haven’t actually touched the instrument in years. You’d be surprised how quickly it can come back to you! This is because there is a lot of muscle memory involved that, like any muscle, should be used and exercised in order to be at its best.
